Independent Observing at Turner Farm

In addition to observing during official classes and events at Turner Farm, the Fairfax County Park Authority’s Night Viewing Permit provides after-hours access to the area outside the fence, around the car park. Check the Society event list and Facebook page for when AS members and leaders plan to be present with personal telescopes - we welcome other permit holders to join us on these nights to share what we are viewing! 

Weather Forecasts for Turner Farm

Good observation nights always depend on the weather! Here are two good sources for checking conditions at the park before you go:

Astrospheric: This site and its associated phone application is the go-to for many astronomers. You can check forecasts for cloud cover, seeing, smoke, and transparency and use the sliding time scale to check the date and time of interest to you.

Clear Sky Chart: Another great site that shows forecasts for seeing, humidity, transparency, etc.
